Who's behind Tide & Bean, and how we work.

The mission — coffee that gives back to the sea — lives on its own page. This one is for the practical stuff: who we are, where the coffee comes from, and how the brand is built.

The brand

Tide & Bean is a specialty coffee brand operated by Hearth & Harbor Holdings LLC. We sell Fairtrade-eligible, single-origin coffees from eleven growing regions across three continents, plus a small house-blend lineup. Every bag funds ocean cleanup work through partner organizations.

We're an independent brand, not part of a larger coffee group. Decisions get made by a small team that drinks the product every morning.

Our roasting partner

We don't roast our own coffee. We partner with Temecula Coffee Roasters (TCR), a roaster known for sourcing transparency, batch-by-batch quality control, and a serious commitment to the craft. Their team roasts on commercial equipment, in small batches, by people who do this for a living — not as a side project.

Why partner instead of building our own roastery? Because doing both well, at our scale, would mean doing both poorly. TCR has decades of roasting expertise we couldn't replicate in our first few years. We'd rather lean on the best in the business and put our own focus where we can do unique work — sourcing, brand, and the ocean partnerships that define us.

Every Tide & Bean bag is roasted in small batches and shipped fresh, usually within days of leaving the roaster.

How we choose coffee

Three filters, in this order:

  1. Quality. Specialty-grade only. If it doesn't cup well, it doesn't make the lineup, regardless of price or origin appeal.
  2. Ethics. Fairtrade-certified or Fairtrade-eligible where possible. Smallholder cooperatives and farms with transparent labor practices.
  3. Story. Each origin earns its place by being genuinely distinctive — not because we needed a country to round out the menu.

You can read about each origin in detail on the Origins page.

How we sell

Direct to drinkers through this website, and through a small set of carefully chosen wholesale partners — independent boutiques, cafes, and gift shops whose values align with ours. We're not chasing big-box placement.

If you run a retail business and want to carry Tide & Bean, get in touch through the contact page. We respond personally.

Where we are

Tide & Bean is based in the United States. We ship nationwide. International shipping is on the roadmap.

What's next

We're early. The product is real and shipping. The brand is taking shape. The ocean partnerships are being finalized — once confirmed, we'll publish names, commitments, and impact totals on the Mission page.

If you want to follow along, the newsletter is the best way. We don't send much, but when we do, it's worth opening.
